Winner of the Sons anonymes/Anonymous Sounds call for projects
A jury of 6 professionals met to select one project from 73 applications. Rémi GEORGES' Ralt144MI project was selected as part of our anonymous, 100% electronic call for projects, to create a musical commission during a residency. Rémi Georges is a sound engineer, computer music producer and sound artist based in Lyon. He holds a Cursus in Classical Percussion from the Toulon Conservatoire and a Master's degree in Computer Music Production from Saint-Étienne. Combining old and new technologies in his personal projects, he creates tailor-made tools and compositions, with particular interests in the image-sound relationship, open-source creation, and the GlitchArt, Circuit-bending and Demoscene art scenes. He is an active member of the Cookie Collectif, of TOPLAPand Creative Code Lyon.
Rémi Georges is also involved in the French underground scene, organizing events, workshops and concerts. He is also the creator of the publishing and cassette label Ordinateur Dans La Tête. He performs under the name Ralt144MI, a project centered on the practice of live-coding, improvised programming for sound and visual creation. Sound is thus programmed live, considering programming as a performative act. This project often relates to aquatic aesthetics, both visually and through sound research, as it was born from the rediscovery of a large stock of home videos made while scuba diving, serving as a creative basis for the visual and sound content. The physical medium is also a recurring theme in this project, as much through video cassettes as through a desire to make audio materialize through musical, acousmatic and physical processes. A desire to smooth out the relationship between performer and audience is also close to the heart, following the idea that the audience can become an actor in the work being created if they so wish. Most of the time, the project is performed in the middle of the audience, and certain aspects are intended to be participatory.
THE PROJECT
Rémi Georges' project at Art Zoyd will be to create a performance piece resulting from a dive into the Studios' archives. A blend of Ralt144MI's aesthetic universe and the history of the site and its creations. The idea is to bring together, as a creative basis, sound, visual and technological materials, in an idea of archive work that is close to his heart, or in a certain form of technological archaeology. The aim is to create a piece in tune with the site, the spectator and his artistic convictions.
