ART ZOYD STUDIOS
OUR MISSIONS
RESEARCH
EXPLORE NEW TOOLS
Art Zoyd Studios develops applied research both in terms of creation, through composer residencies, and pedagogy, as well as in the design of tools to perpetuate electroacoustic musical heritage.
Beyond the performances or works created, our aim is to refocus the artistic discourse on the essential, putting the tool or technology in the background without ever letting them condition the creation.
This "applied" research therefore aims to explore tools with a view to new discourses or sound paths using the resources, instruments and technologies developed or being developed in the industry: virtual reality (VR), computing, communication, games, without losing the thread of a discourse and a fundamental artistic or aesthetic necessity.
These may include tools for tracking bodies or instrumental gestures, tools for transforming or controlling sound masses or lines, tools for interacting between video and music, writing or memorization tools, 3D (or binaural) sound, computer reconstitution of old electronic devices that have become obsolete, all in the service of musical concepts and syntaxes that are constantly evolving and being questioned.
Every tool initiated or produced during composer or instrumentalist residencies, as well as those developed for specific projects, is archived and made available to future users of the Center, as well as to the community of electroacoustic music researchers and composers if required (open source). Depending on the project, we seek to explore possible interactions with other artistic fields, so that creative music is as firmly rooted as possible in any location or medium; and thus, to extend the notion of musical art representation, by questioning the most appropriate form of representation in each context, each room, each space.
