When, in September 2019, I took up my post as "associate composer" at the heart of the Art Zoyd Studios creative center, my immediate desire - and it's still there - was to open up the place as much as possible to this new, unspeakable music, where free improvisation, noise music, DIY (Do It Yourself), wild electronica, field recording and so on all come together. But above all, it's the place where today's music is being made most actively, far from academism, and in a heap of the craziest influences. So, instead of the usual "call for projects" with its archetypal finalist profiles, I proposed a sort of "composition contest" aimed primarily at those who would never even think of entering a composition contest. "V.O. (whose name doesn't cover anything special, but one might think of "Voltage Overdrive" or "Version Originale") simply asked for the invention of a piece guided by the idea of electronic thought in music: for the rest, you were free. When some 80 entries were received later, it was time to make a choice, and the jury's decision was based on a snapshot of today's musical declensions, ultimately resulting in Zenial, VOMIR and Pénélope Michel.
